The Kathina ceremony is one of the most significant and joyous events in the Buddhist calendar. It marks the end of the three-month Vassana (rainy season retreat), during which monks remain in one monastery for meditation and spiritual practice. At the conclusion of this retreat, lay devotees gather to express their gratitude and offer the Kathina robe along with other requisites such as food, medicines, and alms. This act of generosity, known as dāna, strengthens the bond between the monastic community and lay followers while cultivating merit and harmony. The ceremony is filled with devotion, chanting, and communal activities, symbolizing unity, compassion, and the continuation of the Buddha’s teachings.

We warmly invite you to join us for the Kathina Ceremony, a beautiful and meaningful Buddhist tradition marking the end of the Vassana Retreat. This special occasion will be held at the Acton Arena - 415 Queen St, Acton, ON L7J 2N2 on October 25th from 10.30am to 12.00pm.

The ceremony offers a wonderful opportunity to participate in meritorious acts, offer the Kathina robe to the Sangha, and share in the joy of community and spiritual friendship. Your presence will be a great blessing to us all.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing this sacred day together.

With loving-kindness,

Rev Ariyadewa
