Get to Know the Best Trees for Your Neighbourhood

Learn all about the native trees that will enhance your yard with colour and texture, add privacy and shade, and attract birds and pollinators.

Join Credit Valley Conservation’s garden experts for a walk around the library grounds to see and learn about the best native trees for your yard.

Invite a neighbour to attend with you!

This workshop is designed for urban residents living in Acton SNAP, but anyone is welcome to join.

Consider walking, wheeling or taking public transit to this event.

 

What to Wear

  • This event will be held outdoors. In the case of extreme weather, it will be moved indoors. Dress for the weather and conditions.

What to Bring

  • Your own reusable water bottle.
  • Sunscreen and bug spray.

2026 Neighbourhood Tree Giveaway

CVC's home planting team will deliver and help plant a free tree to homeowners on less than one acre in Acton SNAP, Mississauga’s Cooksville SNAP, Georgetown’s Hungry Hollow SNAP, Brampton’s Fletchers Creek SNAP and Community Tree Project neighbourhoods. Limit of one free tree per household in 2026. Check your eligibility and learn more.

About the Speakers

Melissa Creasey, Coordinator, Sustainable Home Landscapes

With a Master of Science, Melissa Creasey works with homeowners to promote sustainable landscaping on their properties, connecting people with the plants and animals found in their backyards.

Sara Maedel, Technician, Sustainable Home Landscapes

Sara Maedel draws on over 15 years’ worth of experience working with native plants to help urban residents create and maintain sustainable landscapes that support a healthy environment.

Event Submission Guidelines & Criteria:

The Happening in the Hills Event Calendar is designed to showcase events that enhance Halton Hill's appeal as a destination and encourage visitation. Our focus is on events that contribute to the cultural, tourism and economic vibrancy of the community.

Calendar Policy:

  • Events must be held in the Town of Halton Hills 
  • Events must be open to the public and of interest to locals and visitors, and taking place for a limited time

Calendar does NOT accept:

  • Political rallies
  • Religious/worship services
  • Sales or Promotions
  • Happy hours
  • Recruitment events (job postings, call for talent or exhibit artists)
  • B2B events (Private Corporate Events and Conferences)
  • Hyper-local or private community activities (e.g. church bake sales, retirement home events, school fundraisers)

Submission and Posting Timeline:

  • Events must be submitted through Visit Halton Hills' website here. 
  • Visit Halton Hills aims to post approved events within 72 business hours of receiving a complete submission (Monday-Friday, excluding holidays).

All event submissions are subject to review by Visit Halton Hills. Inclusion on the Events Calendar is at our discretion and based on alignment with our Economic Development and Tourism Strategy.
